Sociotherapist

As a sociotherapist, you work with people facing major challenges within a specialized psychiatric institution. You guide and observe patients with complex problems, ranging from psychiatric disorders to awaiting their return to their country of origin. You contribute to their reintegration or transfer to another clinic.

The work combines security and treatment, and you interact daily with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, such as foreigners who have lost their residence status or asylum seekers in psychiatric crisis.

What you do

  • You structure the patients' program, including therapies, rest periods, and distracting activities.
  • You are a constant presence, offering practical support, a listening ear, and ensuring patients feel heard and understood.
  • You collaborate intensively with a multidisciplinary treatment team consisting of psychiatrists, lead therapists, social workers, and other therapists and counselors.
  • As a personal supervisor, you are the first point of contact for one or more patients, detecting signals, providing appropriate support, and contributing to the treatment plan.
  • You work irregular shifts, including weekends and evenings, which allows for flexibility in your schedule.

What they ask

  • An HBO diploma (higher professional education), preferably in social pedagogical assistance or nursing.
  • The ability to accurately assess situations and sense people's needs.
  • Remaining calm in difficult or stressful situations and managing challenging behavior.
  • Good collaboration and communication with colleagues and therapists.
  • Ability to work flexibly in irregular shifts, both weekdays and weekends.

Preferences.

  • Experience with group work and/or working with specific target groups within a forensic psychiatric center.
