Infectious Disease Control Physician

South HollandHybrid34 hours/week<3months

Do you, as a physician, want to make a meaningful contribution to public health in a dynamic metropolitan region? At a public health service, you will have the opportunity to work within the broad and current field of infectious disease control. In a time of intensive collaboration with chain partners, supra-regional coordination, academization, and strengthened pandemic preparedness, you will contribute to the further development of an ambitious and growing medical team.

You will play a central role within the General Infectious Disease Control and Travel Advice department, where you will apply your medical expertise in outbreak management, policy advice, vaccinations, and scientific research. In close collaboration with various professionals, you will contribute to high-quality infectious disease care and be a visible and connecting link within and outside the organization.

What you do

You will work in the General Infectious Disease Control (AIB) & Travel Advice (RAVC) department at a public health service and perform various tasks. You will be part of the medical team and work closely with various disciplines such as nurses, infection prevention experts, epidemiologists, medical staff, administrative support staff, and team managers. Your tasks include:

  • Advising nurses on handling notifications and notifiable diseases, conducting source and contact tracing, and monitoring medical quality.
  • Identifying and addressing public concerns or questions about infectious diseases and forwarding them to the appropriate persons/authorities.
  • Involvement in carrying out, advising on, and organizing vaccinations.
  • Playing a primary role in the approach to large-scale infectious disease outbreaks and leading the outbreak team.
  • Participating in projects in the field of prevention and (applied) scientific research, independently or in collaboration with other public health services, an academic institution, and national health institutes.
  • Participating in epidemiological registration, surveillance, and trend analysis of infectious diseases in the region, and advising on infectious disease policy.
  • Supervising medical residents (AIOS), basic doctors, and interns.
  • Staying informed about developments in infectious disease control and travel advice, and translating national policy into the regional situation.
  • Providing information and substantive advice to municipalities, healthcare institutions, and healthcare providers.
  • Providing information to groups about infectious diseases, both to professionals and clients.
  • Maintaining contacts within and outside the public health service, for example, with other departments, general practitioners, healthcare institutions, and laboratories in the region, other public health services, regional emergency services, and the food and consumer product safety authority.
  • Participating in an on-call schedule for infectious disease control outside office hours.

What they ask They are looking for a physician who wants to make a greater impact on population health rather than individual patient treatment. You are a connector who, even from a different specialization, easily connects with the field of public health. You have an affinity with or experience in public health, infectious diseases, and infectious disease control. Additionally, you are innovative, courageous, decisive, and results-oriented.

You possess strong oral and written communication skills and operate consciously and carefully within the political and administrative context. Furthermore, they require:

  • An enthusiastic physician, registered in the BIG-register.
  • Specialization as a Public Health Physician (M+G) Infectious Disease Control (policy and advice or other profile), or you are an internist-infectiologist, medical microbiologist, elderly care physician, or general practitioner.
  • Specific interest in infectious diseases and an affinity for public health.

Practical

The client offers:

  • A fixed-term employment contract with the possibility of extension.
  • An individual choice budget (IKB) of 17.05% on top of your salary, which you can use for extra leave, salary, or student loan repayment.
  • Inclusion in a favorable pension scheme, with a portion of your pension contributions paid and a monthly contribution to health insurance.
  • Statutory and extra-statutory leave.
  • The option to exchange Easter Monday and/or Whit Monday for another religious, cultural, or national holiday or commemoration day.
  • Opportunity to accrue compensatory leave.
  • Various training and development opportunities.
  • Facilities such as a laptop and phone, and flexibility in work location.
