The board of directors of a cultural organization approves the multi-year plan, the annual action plan, the budget, and the annual accounts of the organization. Another core task is appointing members of advisory committees, the Decision College, and the Appeals Committee.
What they ask
- You have relevant experience as a board member and/or are an expert in one or more of the substantive objectives and policy areas in which the organization is active.
- You have an interest in the book industry and the literary and cultural world, within a Flemish and international policy context.
- You have a relevant professional network.
- You are enthusiastic about the mission and objectives of the organization.
- You are willing to constructively contribute to an organization that, together with the sector, faces major challenges.
- You can invest sufficient time in the mandate of an independent board member and can be physically present at board meetings at the organization's office.
- The organization aims to strengthen its board of directors substantively with expertise and know-how that is complementary, enriching, and reinforcing to the knowledge and experience of the other members. Therefore, we ask you to demonstrate your expertise in one or more of these domains: authorship (both artistic-creative context, and socio-economic and copyright matters); literary translation or translation studies; diversity of authors and readers (cross-generational, male/female, diverse socio-cultural and/or ethnic backgrounds); publishing world (economic complexity of the book industry); inclusive communication, public engagement, marketing, and research; representation from academia (literature or humanities); cultural management in a complex organization with very diverse players and interests; financial management in a public context; Flemish-Dutch cooperation; reading promotion; library sector; media; foreign policy and European context; literary organizations and projects.
Practical
- You will join a group of engaging board members, each with their own unique expertise.
- With your expertise, you will contribute to the care of the literary sector and all its links, from author to reader.
- Board members receive a fee of € 65 per effectively attended meeting (the amount is indexed and currently stands at € 85.77). This fee is determined by a decision of the Flemish Government.
- Your travel expenses will be reimbursed based on the rate applicable to Flemish government personnel. This means you will receive a mileage allowance for car travel or full reimbursement for public transport tickets.
- The organization arranges director's liability insurance.
