Communication Advisor Council Secretariat

Ensure that residents, council, and administration find each other better through clear, accessible, and contemporary communication. The municipal council is at the heart of society. Good communication is indispensable in this regard. As a communication advisor for a council secretariat, you help the municipal council to be visible, accessible, and engaged. You advise on communication issues and ensure that residents can easily get in touch with the council and its members.

With your expertise, you contribute to a strong connection between the city and local democracy. As a communication advisor, you work within the council secretariat and are responsible for internal and external communication concerning the municipal council. You advise the council clerk, council advisors, and council members on communication issues and help the council to sustainably involve residents in council work.

You will join the council secretariat of a governmental organization. The secretariat supports the municipal council in its activities and forms the connecting link between the council, residents, and the organization. Together with the council clerk, council advisors, and other colleagues, you work towards an open, transparent, and accessible local democracy.

You collaborate daily with council members, the council chairman, communication colleagues from the administrative organization, and employees from various departments. In addition, you maintain contacts with residents, social organizations, businesses, political parties, media, and other authorities. The lines are short, the topics are socially relevant, and the impact of your work is directly visible in the city.

You are given ample opportunity to take initiative, propose new ideas, and further professionalize communication. Within the organization, you work for a city that is constantly evolving. What you do

  • Advise on the use of communication tools and channels
  • Translate communication strategies into concrete tools such as websites, social media, and information material
  • Identify developments in government communication and translate them into improvements
  • Contribute to thinking about improvement processes
  • Edit texts for publications, speeches, announcements, and other communication expressions
  • Coordinate communication on the web pages of the municipal council
  • Monitor the quality and recognizability of communication tools and corporate identity
  • Advise colleagues within the secretariat on communication aspects of projects and initiatives
  • Maintain contacts with media, residents, social organizations, and other external partners
  • Contribute to building networks that enhance the visibility and accessibility of the municipal council
  • Proactively coordinate with communication professionals within the administrative organization to ensure common processes align well

What they ask

  • Minimum of a completed HBO (higher professional education) degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in communication advisory where political, administrative, and social developments play a role
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience within a municipal or other comparable political-administrative organization
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in drafting communication tools, such as news messages, web content, social media messages, and internal communication expressions

Preferences.

  • Preferably a completed HBO degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Administration
  • Preferably more than 3 years of experience as a Communication Advisor Council Secretariat at a governmental organization
  • Preferably more than 5 years of experience in communication advisory where political, administrative, and social developments play a role
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing and utilizing social media and other digital communication channels
