Laboratory Technologist

Participation in the preparation of allografts for use in cardiovascular surgery.

  • Daily management of all tasks related to donor selection, dissection, cryopreservation, storage, and distribution of tissues.
  • Participation in an on-call role without supervision.

What you do

  • Contact collection centers for donor selection.
  • Interpret complex and sensitive donor-related data.
  • Receive human bodily material and prepare the file.
  • Apply necessary precautions regarding the biological hazard of human bodily material.
  • Manage all processing files for human bodily material.
  • Prepare necessary materials and solutions for the transformation of human bodily material.
  • Work in a cleanroom and under laminar flow.
  • Provide assistance in the cleanroom.
  • Under delegation: aseptically dissect, decontaminate, cryopreserve human bodily material, perform morphological and functional studies, take measurements.
  • Record various data in the file or in the management software.
  • Prepare biological validation quality controls (histology, virology, bacteriology).
  • Manage the sending and/or deposit of samples to the laboratory.
  • Use controlled freezing equipment and cryogenics for allograft storage.
  • Ensure the update of the list of available tissues.
  • Under delegation: propose allografts to the implanting surgeon.
  • Condition allografts for transport.
  • Receive and process results of biological quality controls (histology, virology, bacteriology).
  • Manage all required encodings.
  • Ensure traceability of files and waste from human bodily material.
  • Ensure cleaning and maintenance of equipment used during the various processes.
  • Perform necessary environmental controls during production stages.
  • Verify activity-related parameters (temperature, pressure, nitrogen level,…).
  • Participate in consumable order management, scientific research, development and validation of new materials or processes, and continuous improvement of the quality system.
  • Use the management software.
  • Encode general information, clinical data, and results.
  • Participate in internal/external audits and the training of new recruits.
