Assistant support worker
The core of this role is to genuinely contribute to a good quality of life for clients with an average IQ and autism. You will have the opportunity to further develop your expertise in the field of autism. You will work in close-knit teams where you have autonomy and are truly seen.
What you do
You exude calm and provide stability, which you use to work together on structured and clear frameworks for clients and for yourself. Together with a team of dedicated colleagues, you will make a positive impact on the daily lives of clients with autism. You offer proximity and calm through words and touch. Your tasks include:
- supporting the daily routine, such as starting the day, day activities, and/or concluding the day and evening ritual
- helping clients discover their limitations and their strengths
- providing support in writing evaluations or setting up development plans
- maintaining contact with clients' relatives
- coordinating (medical) care if necessary
No day is the same, no client with autism is the same. This versatility allows you to continuously develop yourself. The work is sometimes mentally challenging, but physically light. Aggression is not directed towards the support staff. Some clients may struggle with tension build-up or internalizing problems. Your calmness and attention will make the difference. Examples of themes you will work on together:
- Dealing with social anxiety or overstimulation
- Gender identity questions
- Bringing structure to the day
- Activation and stimulating self-reliance
- Collaborating with mental health therapists
- Strengthening the network according to organizational guidelines
Profile
You are curious, approachable, and practical. You are resilient and not easily deterred. You remain calm and professional, even when emotions run high. You provide clear boundaries and structure, so clients know what to expect. You have:
- a (completed) care education at mbo3 or hbo level (MMZ/SPW)
- willingness to work irregular hours
- the desire to develop as an expert in the field of autism, especially to better understand client behavior
- willingness to also provide household support
