MENA Guardian
An organization supports unaccompanied foreign minors (UFM) on their path to independent living. This includes individual support and preventive aid for UFM and former UFM in their living environment and social context, as well as the development of collective projects to promote integration, solidarity, and social diversity. The organization has a team of employed guardians. The guardian is the legal representative responsible for the general well-being of the minor.
The organization has existed for nearly 30 years and employs approximately 20 FTEs.
What you will do. As a guardian, you will ensure the administrative guardianship of 12 or 13 young UFMs (aged 0 to 18).
- Accompany and support the young person in all social, administrative, medical, and legal procedures concerning them.
- Request the assistance of a lawyer to represent the young person in various procedures.
- Ensure that the young person benefits from schooling, psychological support, necessary medical care, adequate housing, and assistance from public authorities.
- Explain decisions made about the young person to them.
- Suggest sustainable solutions for the young person.
- Cooperate with the young person, with the person or institution hosting them, with competent authorities, and any other relevant bodies; ensure the continuity of actions taken.
- Manage the young person's assets.
- Establish regular reports concerning the evolution of the young person's situation.
- Listen to and analyze requests and develop collaboration.
- Accompany the young person in reflecting on and/or implementing their personal project.
- Promote the young person's autonomy by taking the time to involve them in the processes.
- Ensure knowledge is updated to stay in phase with the field context.
Profile
- Holder of a higher education degree with a social orientation.
- Experience in the sector is an asset.
- Experience in foreign law and/or Belgian social security is an asset.
- Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
- Very good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze context, needs, and resources and implement adapted responses.
- Aptitude for working with a vulnerable and often precarious public.
- Capable of integrating into a small team/structure, knowing how to cooperate with other professionals.
- Capable of working autonomously.
- Methodical, rigorous, organized, structured.
- Availability, flexibility.
- Adaptability and versatility.
- Critical thinking, ability to step back, and stress resistance.
- Good listening skills and empathy.
- Adheres to the values/educational project of the organization.
- Driving license is mandatory.
