AntwerpHybridHours negotiable<3months

For a high-tech industrial environment, we are looking for a Mechanical & Piping Project Engineer who wants to take technical responsibility for investment and improvement projects.

  • You will remain technically involved, manage engineering partners, and ensure that technical choices lead to safe, reliable, and executable installations in practice.

What you do

  • You will work within an operational industrial site on multidisciplinary CAPEX projects related to production, infrastructure, and R&D.
  • You will be the technical right-hand of the Project Manager and form the link between the various engineering disciplines, suppliers, contractors, and the operational organization.
  • Your Mechanical & Piping expertise forms your technical basis, but you always look at the complete project.
  • Specifically:
  • You monitor the technical scope, design philosophy, and project requirements.
  • You coordinate and integrate engineering across different disciplines: Mechanical & Piping, Process, E&I, Automation, Civil, Safety, and Infrastructure.
  • You evaluate and challenge technical designs, with attention to safety, reliability, maintainability, constructability, and costs.
  • You monitor M&P concepts, layouts, P&IDs, equipment specifications, piping routes, and isometric drawings.
  • You technically guide EPCm partners, suppliers, and contractors and follow up on their deliverables.
  • You identify technical risks and assess the impact of changes on scope, timing, budget, and execution.
  • You remain involved from concept and engineering to construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • You support technical specifications, tenders, and supplier selections.
  • For Mechanical & Piping, you also follow up on fabrication, inspections, FAT, installation, SAT, and punch lists where relevant.
  • You ensure clear technical decisions, documentation, and reporting to stakeholders.
  • You share your knowledge with other engineers and contribute to standards and lessons learned.

What they ask

  • We are primarily looking for someone who is technically strong in Mechanical & Piping but feels comfortable in a multidisciplinary project environment.
  • Ideally, you bring:
  • A master's degree in a technical field, or equivalent through experience.
  • Extensive experience in Mechanical & Piping engineering in an industrial or process environment.
  • Demonstrable experience with multidisciplinary CAPEX projects, preferably from concept to execution and handover.
  • Experience in technically managing and challenging engineering partners, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and engineering standards, such as PED, ATEX, and EN 13480.
  • Experience with project aspects such as scope, planning, costs, risks, and stakeholder management.
  • VCA-VOL certification or willingness to obtain it.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Plant 3D is a plus.
  • You are someone who can combine technical depth with overview and pragmatism.
  • You don't have to be a specialist in every discipline, but you understand how the different pieces of the puzzle fit together.
  • You communicate smoothly, take ownership, and dare to critically question technical partners when necessary.
  • You are fluent in Dutch and English.
