Specialist Drives Movable Structures
You will work in a Roads and Canals department, part of a government organization. This department is responsible for the construction and management of provincial infrastructure, including roads, waterways, bridges, and locks. The organization has made progress in machine safety, risk dossier formation, and bringing technical dossiers of movable structures up to standard.
It has been observed that essential design data is missing for various objects, such as drives, movement mechanisms, braking systems, and structural components.
What you will do.
- Inventory and analyze missing design data for mechanical drives and movement mechanisms
- Develop an action plan for objects for which essential design data is missing
- Determine which additional inspections, measurements, studies, and reverse-engineering trajectories are necessary
- Execute or supervise work resulting from the action plan
- Together with structural specialists, determine for which bridge cases and movement mechanisms structural justifications are missing
- Perform and/or evaluate power, force, and braking calculations for the safety declaration of drives
- Provide substantive input for the Data-Driven Asset Management (DGAM) pilot
- Advise on the mechanical scope of maintenance, renovation, and replacement projects
Profile
You will work as a mechanical engineering specialist. You will perform or supervise technical calculations as needed, prepare reverse-engineering trajectories, and provide technical advice for ongoing and future projects. You will independently determine the approach and working method required to achieve the described results.

- Demonstrably completed education at a minimum of HBO bachelor level
- Minimum 7 years of demonstrable work experience with mechanical installations of movable bridges, locks, and/or comparable infrastructural objects
- Demonstrable work experience with drives, movement mechanisms, and/or braking systems of movable objects
- Demonstrable work experience with performing and evaluating mechanical calculations, such as force, power, and load calculations
- Demonstrable work experience with inspections, technical analyses, studies, and/or reverse-engineering trajectories
- Demonstrable work experience with assignments within a public organization, contractor, engineering firm, and/or asset manager in the infrastructure sector
Preferences.
- At least two comparable assignments where the candidate was responsible for the analysis, assessment, design, or renovation of mechanical installations of movable bridges, locks, or similar objects, including the candidate's role and the results achieved
- Candidate's experience with force calculations, power calculations, and braking calculations and with the safety declaration of mechanical installations, including how this knowledge has been applied in practice
- At least one assignment where the candidate reconstructed missing design data, performed technical analyses, or supervised a reverse-engineering trajectory, including the approach followed and the result achieved
- Candidate's experience with management, machine safety, maintenance, renovation, or the life cycle approach of infrastructural assets and how this experience contributed to decision-making, programming, or maintenance strategies
- Relevant assignments within a province, municipality, water board, Rijkswaterstaat, or comparable organization, including the role fulfilled by the candidate and the results achieved
