Regional Correspondent

A public broadcaster is looking for a freelance regional correspondent for the Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht region. You have a nose for news, are flexible, and familiar with audio, video, and online content.

What you will do.

• Actively search for compelling and interesting news stories in the region.
• Deliver stories on all societal themes: politics, economy, culture, justice, human interest, etc.
• Maintain a news calendar and propose potential topics.
• Go out on assignment at the request of an editorial team for a specific task.
• Conduct interviews for radio and online.
• Take photos and, for some assignments, short video recordings.
• Process the gathered information into smooth (radio) reports.

What they ask

• Have good contacts that can provide you with news and information and quickly build your own network.
• Be able to quickly get in touch with residents of the municipalities you cover to gather their reactions to news events.
• Ask the right questions in an interview, going beyond mere registration to ask critical questions.
• Write fluent texts for radio, take good photos for a web article, record radio quotes, and make short film recordings.
• Be familiar with the style and deontology of a public broadcaster or be willing to quickly master it.
• Meet quality requirements.
• Be flexible regarding working hours and weekend work.
• Be stress-resistant and able to work quickly and efficiently.
• Work independently and communicate well with editorial teams.
• Make clear agreements and brief information clearly.
• Be open to feedback and eager to learn.
• Reside in a municipality in the Waasland region.
• Possess a B driving license.
