Correctional Officer

As a correctional officer at a government organization, you ensure safety and structure in a correctional facility. The role requires self-confidence and stress resistance. You supervise and actively contribute to the reintegration of detainees. You balance strictness and humanity to help detainees on their way to a better future.

What you will do.

• Monitor the atmosphere in the department, being alert to tensions and disturbances of order.
• Conduct mentoring interviews with detainees, guiding and supporting them in their personal trajectories.
• Check the exercise yard and ensure it is safe for use by detainees.
• Perform urine controls, remaining vigilant for abnormalities and potential safety risks.
• Carry out administrative tasks, such as booking visitor appointments and maintaining files.
• Wake up detainees, open doors, and accompany them to appointments or activities.

What they ask

• Demonstrable MBO 4 working and thinking level (assessed with an aptitude test).
• Good physical and mental condition.
• Good communication skills in Dutch, both verbal and written (e.g., for reports).
• Willingness to work irregular shifts.
• Ability to set boundaries and conduct firm conversations.
• Ability to relativize so as not to be easily upset by problems or challenges.
• Empathy to understand detainees, while maintaining professional distance.
