As a Social Psychiatric Nurse (SPN), you contribute to appropriate psychiatric care for refugees with complex issues. You are there for refugees with psychological and psychiatric complaints, where multiple factors often play a role simultaneously, such as traumatic experiences, loss, uncertainty about the future, and the impact of migration and stay in a new country.
Within a specialized program, you look beyond just psychiatric complaints and pay attention to the cultural, social, and societal context in which someone lives. You connect treatment and guidance with the patient's lived experience, build trust, carefully map out the situation, and, together with the patient and the multidisciplinary team, seek what is necessary and feasible. This requires curiosity, flexibility, and the ability to connect without making assumptions.
You work independently, but collaboration within the multidisciplinary team is essential, bringing in your social psychiatric perspective.
What you do
- Perform intakes, psychiatric nursing diagnostics and treatments, and contribute to the treatment plan.
- Guide and treat patients, paying attention to both psychiatric problems and social and societal circumstances.
- Signal changes in the psychiatric state and intervene where necessary.
- Collaborate with relatives, chain partners, and other involved organizations around the patient.
- Contribute to culturally sensitive care and, together with colleagues, seek an approach that aligns with the patient's background and situation.
Profile
You are an SPN who easily connects with people from different backgrounds and life stories. You can handle complex situations and continue to look at what someone needs. Differences in language, culture, or frame of reference make you curious, and you are willing to critically examine your own perspective.
- A completed education as a social psychiatric nurse and a valid BIG registration.
- Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and experience with complex psychiatric problems.
- Affinity with refugee care, transcultural psychiatry, and/or trauma-related problems.
- The ability to work independently and actively seek collaboration within and outside the treatment team.
