The organization is looking for a Director Leisure who, together with the management team, sets the course for the organization and shapes its future.
What you do
As director, you guide a broad and dynamic stream that aims to connect residents. Together with the team coaches and the stream team, you are responsible for the operation and development of this stream. This includes the primary teams (Children, Youth, Adult Knowledge, Adult Arts, and Sports) and the supporting teams (Logistics and Heritage). It is your responsibility to maintain coherence, strengthen connections, and create the right conditions for achieving results.
The recent synergy with the Education domain offers opportunities to bundle expertise and create more impact together. You contribute to this development, respecting the uniqueness and responsibilities of each operation.
- Translates the mission and strategic objectives of the organization into a clear direction, priorities, and concrete results.
- Ensures coherence between the different teams and stimulates collaboration across team boundaries.
- Creates the conditions for high-quality, efficient, and future-oriented operations, with attention to organizational structure, processes, resources, and personnel deployment.
- Is a guiding and facilitating leader: provides frameworks and clarity, without taking over the content, and ensures that the available expertise is optimally utilized.
- Together with the team coaches, provides space for ownership and shared leadership.
- Uses the organizational compass as a guide to make choices and set priorities, and contributes to its further embedding in the organization.
- As a member of the management team, takes responsibility for the development of the organization as a whole and contributes to organization-wide change trajectories.

- Strategic leader who looks beyond daily operations. Oversees the whole, connects diverse interests, and keeps the long-term perspective in mind.
- Connector who brings people, teams, and expertise together. Knows how to connect different perspectives and builds bridges between people and teams.
- Inspiring and coaching leader who instills trust, encourages ownership, and helps employees and teams grow. Sets a good example in shared leadership.
- Experience with organizational development and change management. Knows how to involve people in change and creates space for collaborative learning and experimentation.
- Strong communicator who can easily switch between different levels and interlocutors.
- Politically and administratively sensitive and able to diplomatically handle the tension between policy, organization, and societal expectations.
- Aware of own strengths and weaknesses, open to feedback, and actively invests in personal development.
- Experience with external service provision. Can translate the needs and expectations of residents and other target groups into policy and organization.
- Relevant work experience within a local government or the public sector is an added value for this job.
- Familiar with the principles of IAO (innovative work organization).
What they ask
- Master's degree or equivalent diploma. If you do not have a master's degree, you can participate in the selection procedure if you pass a capacity test at master's level.
- Enjoys civil and political rights.
- Has Belgian nationality.
- Proficient in Dutch, in accordance with the Decree of the Flemish Government of May 3, 2013, implementing the decree of November 18, 2011, regulating proof of language proficiency.

- An attractive gross monthly salary according to salary scale A8a-A8b, between € 5,566 and € 8,694, depending on your relevant work experience in the public and/or private sector.
