Data engineer

A public health organization is responsible for implementing screening programs in the Netherlands, inviting millions of people annually for the early detection of various diseases. What you do

As a data engineer, you will join a Scrum Team responsible for expanding, optimizing, and managing the data warehouse. You will be involved in realizing ETL processes to load data into the data warehouse and contribute to expanding automated tests. Documenting your work is a matter of course. You will work intensively with other data engineers, data analysts, and subject matter experts in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Develop, manage, and optimize objects in Microsoft SQL Server, analyzing processes and translating them into efficient SQL solutions.
  • Develop, optimize, and manage pipelines in Azure Data Factory (ADF).
  • Monitor and evaluate daily ADF runs and clearly communicate any follow-up actions to involved team members.
  • Execute new releases via the O-A-P street and coordinate with colleagues.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage regression tests and DQ tests.
  • Keep documentation up-to-date in Azure DevOps.
  • Monitor rights and access management of the environments.
  • Actively collaborate and brainstorm with colleagues, daily coordinating what you are working on and what you need from colleagues.

  • Excellent communication skills: able to clearly explain technical information to colleagues with different backgrounds and ask probing questions to clarify information needs.
  • Capable of organizing your work well and meeting deadlines – or raising the alarm in time for help.
  • Actively coordinate with data engineers, data analysts, and subject matter experts, providing clear feedback on findings, choices, and progress.
  • Write understandable and structured documentation so colleagues can follow, manage, and take over your work if necessary.
  • Analytical profile: able to comprehend complex processes and complex data.
  • Capable of proposing improvements to existing processes and engaging the team and organization in these.
  • Familiar with taking processes into management and documenting them.
  • 1 to 2 years of work experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF).
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with Azure DevOps (or comparable alternative tools like GitHub).
  • Demonstrable work experience and knowledge in the field of Data Warehouses.
  • Knowledge of the Agile/Scrum way of working.
