Production manager wood sector

West FlandersHybridHours negotiable<3months

Since 1960, an organization has been literally and figuratively building for the future. Its iconic laminated wooden beams have proven their quality over the years in various projects, from sports halls and swimming pools to schools, offices, and residential complexes. Today, its expertise extends much further. High-quality timber constructions combining sustainability, aesthetics, and technical quality are realized.

To support its continued growth and professionalization, a Production Manager is sought to take on a central role as the right hand of the director in the daily operations and further development of the organization.

What you do

As a Production Manager, you are responsible for the daily operations and further professionalization of production. You are a visible and hands-on leader on the shop floor, while maintaining an overview of the entire production organization. Your responsibilities include:

  • Operational leadership of the entire production organization and monitoring of planning, capacity, quality, safety, efficiency, and progress.
  • Directly managing 3 production coordinators and the maintenance manager, ensuring clear objectives, responsibilities, and follow-up.
  • Being present daily on the shop floor, knowing the people and production processes, and staying in touch with what is happening within the organization.
  • Bringing structure and clarity, monitoring agreements made, and ensuring that responsibilities within the production organization are clear.
  • Addressing employees and managers correctly and clearly when expectations, agreements, or results are not met.
  • Taking ownership of problems and improvement points: analyzing, deciding, adjusting, and ensuring that actions are effectively implemented and followed up.
  • Monitoring production quality and compliance with relevant quality standards, certifications, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Together with the maintenance manager, monitoring the technical operation and maintenance of the machinery, and actively contributing ideas for technical improvements and investments.
  • Identifying opportunities to further improve processes, efficiency, and productivity, and ensuring that improvement actions are actually realized.
  • Working closely with the director and serving as their sounding board for operational, technical, and organizational issues.
  • Translating growth plans into production and thinking ahead about automation, modernization, investments, and future renovations.
  • Ensuring that changes and investments are not only technically well-founded but also practically translated to the people and the daily production organization.
  • Combining hands-on leadership with a helicopter view: being close to the people and production, while also contributing to the further development and professionalization of the organization.

What they ask We are looking for an experienced professional who wants to take on responsibility within a technical production environment. You recognize yourself in the following:

  • Extensive experience within a production or technical environment, preferably in a managerial or ultimately responsible position.
  • Strong technical feeling and understanding of how a production environment functions.
  • Experience in wood, timber constructions, or interior design is a plus, but not an absolute requirement.
  • Combination of a helicopter view with a strong operational mindset.
  • Ability to bring structure without creating unnecessary complexity.
  • A natural leader who knows how to engage people in changes.
  • Taking responsibility and not waiting for problems to be solved.
  • Analytical, pragmatic, and decisive.
  • Clear communication and the ability to easily switch between the shop floor, colleagues, and management.
  • Feeling comfortable in an SME environment with short decision lines, where your initiative and contribution are directly visible.

What you get. This position offers you the opportunity to take on a key role within a stable and financially healthy organization with clear growth ambitions. You will receive:

  • A key position as the right hand of the director.
  • Direct impact on the daily operations and further professionalization of the organization.
  • The opportunity to contribute to the further growth of the organization.
  • A lot of autonomy and room to actually realize improvements.
  • Short decision lines and an entrepreneurial, no-nonsense culture.
  • An environment where craftsmanship, quality, and technical expertise are central.
  • The opportunity to further develop not only processes but also people and teams.
  • An attractive salary package with extra-legal benefits.
  • The possibility to structure the collaboration both as an employee and on a self-employed basis.
