Digital triage is increasingly used in general practice care. Patients describe their complaints digitally, after which the practice determines the necessary care and its urgency. Little is known about the effects of digital triage on healthcare accessibility and the work of doctor's assistants. This is being investigated within a research project, funded by relevant research funders.
What you will do. You will work on research into the actual use of digital triage in daily practice. You will visit general practices, observe at the reception and behind the screen, and speak with patients and healthcare professionals about their experiences. You will systematically analyze the collected information and translate it into useful findings for practices, professional organizations, and policymakers.
- Recruiting practices and preparing and planning fieldwork
- Conducting observations in general practices and taking semi-structured interviews with patients and healthcare professionals
- Coding and analyzing interview transcripts, and contributing to the interpretation of findings
- Contributing to mapping where and how digital triage is used, through desk research and discussions with general practice organizations and providers of triage applications
- Co-writing reports and scientific publications, and providing feedback on findings to participating practices and overarching general practice organizations
You will be given ample room for self-organization, with weekly guidance and a structured onboarding process. You will shadow experienced researchers before independently entering the field. Opportunities are available for training in qualitative research methods, co-authorship on scientific publications, presenting at conferences, and networking within a national consortium of academic and research institutions.
Profile
You are a curious and structured researcher who wants to understand how healthcare works in practice, and who moves easily between practices, patients, and policymakers.
- Completed scientific master's degree in Health Sciences, Clinical Epidemiology, Health Policy & Management, Medicine, or a comparable field
- Familiarity with qualitative research (e.g., interviews or observations) gained during education, internship
- Excellent command of Dutch in speech and writing, and the ability to process scientific literature in English effectively
- Ability to easily connect with diverse people, from patients to administrators
- Careful and structured working method, with the ability to independently plan and execute fieldwork
