Researcher in Molecular Genetics
The project focuses on improving complex traits in plant breeding, such as crop tolerance to dynamic environmental conditions and the nutritional status of crops for human health. This involves identifying and modifying cis-regulatory elements and transcription factor genes to adjust targeted gene expression. The goal is to develop a breakthrough technology platform to improve tolerance to heat, drought, and nutrient deficiencies, as well as the nutritional status of fruits for human health.
What you do
- Investigate plant response to zinc and iron deficiency.
- Design strategies to improve the zinc/iron nutritional status of plants.
- Generate dedicated (single-cell) transcriptional data sets.
- Perform MOA-seq analysis of transcription factor binding of promoter elements.
- Design specific constructs to edit transcription factor genes and their target promoters.
- Analyze the effects of optimized gene expression regulation on plant performance under optimal and field-like conditions.
- Collaborate with international partners across the consortium.
- Supervise a part-time technician on the project.
- Write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Profile
- A strong academic track record and a PhD in plant biotechnology, plant molecular genetics, or a related topic.
- Experience with plant mineral homeostasis and/or specific crop research.
- Demonstrated expertise in the analysis of large data-sets.
- A strong interest in experimental research.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills (C1 level).
