Residential intensive care counselor

DrentheOn site36 hours/week<3months

A care organization helps people with intellectual and/or psychological disabilities to lead as normal a life as possible, focusing on what is achievable. The organization operates at over 200 locations. Collaboration between clients, their personal network, and professionals is central.

At a residential and working farm, support is provided to 17 clients with intellectual disabilities and challenging behavior. Each client lives in their own apartment, connected to one of three living groups. Each group has a shared living room and kitchen for communal activities. Farm-bound care is offered, meaning that in addition to living on site, work activities are also provided in and around the farm.

Guidance is tailored to the needs of clients by offering personalized care and attention, with much calm and structure. Living and working on the same premises requires flexibility and good cooperation between teams.

You will join the residential team. Each living group has its own core team, and you will primarily work within your own living group, but deployability across all groups is important. The location operates according to the Triple C vision, where challenging behavior is seen not as a problem, but as a signal of unmet human needs.

Profile

As a counselor, you radiate warmth and calm. You are an open person and communicate clearly with clients and colleagues. You give clients a safe and trusted feeling, and with you, they can be themselves. You build a trusting relationship by being unconditionally there for the client.

  • You recognize behavioral signals and know how to intervene in time before tension escalates.
  • You do not take escalations personally and understand that this is a way for the client to express something that is bothering them.
  • You are a positive and enthusiastic colleague who supports both clients and the team.

What you will do.

  • Primarily late shifts during the week, possibly followed by a sleep-in shift.
  • On weekdays, you will be with two counselors in a living group.
  • The first shift starts at 3:00 PM and welcomes clients returning from their workday.
  • The second shift starts at 3:30 PM with a handover from colleagues who worked during the day, after which you join the group.
  • Cook for the group, with or without the help of a client.
  • Support clients with tidying up or cleaning their apartments, or go grocery shopping together.
  • Provide support with light ADL (Activities of Daily Living) tasks where necessary.
  • On weekends, you work alone in the group.
  • Follow the client's daily rhythm, as this provides structure and stability.
  • Sometimes a day shift: starting around 8:00 AM with a handover from the colleague who worked a sleep-in shift, then joining the group and helping clients start their day; light ADL tasks may also occur during this shift.
  • On weekends, follow the group's program, which includes time for leisure activities.
  • During the week, you may have a regulatory shift: dealing with administrative matters concerning clients (e.g., scheduling appointments with the GP or dentist), and joining clients who are free that day.

What they ask

  • Possess a relevant diploma at a minimum of MBO level 3.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to gain experience with, the Triple C methodology.
  • Affinity with providing a clear guidance structure and a low Expressed Emotion (EE).
  • Willingness to work irregular hours (day, evening, sleep-in, and weekend shifts).
  • Flexible and able to step in during colleagues' illness or holidays.
  • Possess a driving license and own transport, as the location is not easily accessible by public transport.
