Basic Psychologist

You play an important role in improving the mental health of detainees within a penitentiary institution.

  • You apply various interventions to increase the chances of success upon return to society and reduce the risk of recidivism.

What you do

  • Work individually with detainees on their mental health.
  • Contribute to improving the general detention climate.
  • Provide direction and content to mental healthcare within the institution.
  • Apply psychological interventions, diagnostics, and indications for detainees requiring extra psychomedical care in (crisis) situations.
  • Consult and treat detainees.
  • Provide any necessary aftercare.
  • Consult with the care team.
  • Manage the treatment when external experts are involved.
  • Advise management and other disciplines on the provision and guidance of mental healthcare and treatment.
  • Participate in psychomedical consultations.
  • Conduct intake interviews.
  • Conduct progress interviews as instructed by the primary practitioner.

What they ask for.

  • Completed university degree in psychology (bachelor and master).
  • Relevant work experience and affinity with working within forensic frameworks.
  • Demonstrable experience with cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • Demonstrable experience with trauma treatment is a plus.

Practical aspects.

  • Opportunity for career progression to a GZ-psychologist training, with priority for internal candidates.
