Venture Finance
The client organization focuses on the large-scale application of sustainable innovations in the construction and real estate sectors. Many solutions exist for energy transition, grid congestion, housing challenges, and CO₂ and nitrogen reduction, but these are often too expensive and risky for construction companies, installers, and real estate parties to apply structurally. As a result, promising startups do not scale up, despite the great urgency.
The initiative makes it logical to apply innovations, with clients becoming strategic partners and co-investors in the innovation they use in their projects. Various partners share the innovation risk with public and private co-financing. Work is currently done deal-by-deal with the goal of building a full-fledged fund. An experienced investor is sought to help build the financial core of the organization, from the first deals to a mature fund, with the prospect of growing into a partner.
What you do
- Assess startups and SME providers, conduct due diligence, write investment cases, and negotiate term sheets through closing, together with strategic co-investing partners
- Set up and manage structures such as SPVs, cooperative structures, and convertible loans, in collaboration with legal and tax advisors
- Establish the investment process and governance, including investment policy, evaluation funnel, investment committee, and reporting to financiers
- Serve as a sparring partner for banks, funds, regional governments, and philanthropic partners, and contribute to the fund structure
- Guide the portfolio, monitor participations, and help startups become investable, at the intersection of strategy, financing, and impact (energy, circular and biobased, water)
What they ask
- Minimum of 6 years of experience as an investor in venture capital, private equity, impact investing, or corporate finance, with deals managed independently from start to finish
- Knowledge of fund structures: SPVs, carried interest, convertible loans, and LP reports
- Comfortable with both debt and equity and able to draw conclusions from incomplete figures of young companies
- Credible to banks, funds, and investors, with a relevant network
- A plus: experience in construction, real estate, installation, or energy; with public or philanthropic (co-)financing; or with setting up a new fund
Profile
- Driven by impact, where return enables scalability
- Entrepreneurial and prefers to build something new rather than manage an existing fund
- Handles uncertainty well and works hands-on, including writing investment cases independently
- Complements the team with investment experience and financial acumen, alongside existing strategy, innovation, and network in construction and real estate
Practical
- A key role from the first deals, with a partnership perspective within the organization and the fund
- A growing, complementary team
