Media Environmental Analyst

As an environmental analyst at a government organization, you translate current developments and media data into impactful analyses that contribute to policy for an accessible, safe, and livable Netherlands.

What you do

  • Together with a team of monitoring colleagues, you collect and analyze policy-relevant news from newspapers, (news) sites, radio, television, and social media.
  • The results are available on an internal news service, accessible to many colleagues.
  • You analyze what is happening using various tools and distill content that may impact policy development.
  • You provide environmental analyses based on current developments.
  • You clarify the extent to which policy priorities can count on support from stakeholders and the media.
  • You are part of a team and divide evening and weekend work in addition to day shifts.
  • You are responsible for the daily news overview, selecting the most important news on relevant themes.
  • Throughout the day, you provide real-time monitoring on multiple themes and create environmental analyses on current topics.
  • You provide a daily wrap-up of the most important news on relevant themes.
  • As a media analyst, you can also be deployed during incidents or crises.

Profile

  • You have a keen eye for (political) news and are proficient with online news media and social media.
  • You have an eye for detail and know what information is important for colleagues, proactively sending your analyses.
  • You are analytically strong and can translate client questions into impactful analyses.
  • You can present your findings well, even under time pressure.
  • You are flexible and don't mind monitoring and processing media outside office hours into compelling analyses.
  • You have knowledge of political and administrative relations.
  • You have good knowledge of trends and developments in (social) media and are digitally very skilled.
  • You are results-driven, connecting, have a great sense of responsibility, and are involved in society.
  • You enjoy working in an expert and professional environment and are good at collaborating.

What they ask

  • Minimum HBO (higher professional education) work and thinking level, with a focus on Communication, Political Science, Public Administration, or Media/Journalism.
  • Extensive experience with monitoring and analysis, including creating environmental analyses and working with monitoring tools such as Coosto and OBI4Wan.
  • Experience working in a political-administrative or complex environment.
  • Quick insight into political-administrative, official, and societal processes and relations.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficient in (analyzing) data.
  • Good knowledge of trends and developments in society and in (social) media.
  • Flexible and a team player who performs well under time pressure.
