Mechanical Project Manager
Assignment for a minimum of one year where you budget CAPEX projects. You will work on complex brownfield projects where existing production lines, utilities, and production processes need to be adapted. The client is an industrial production organization with an existing production site that continuously invests in installations, production processes, and technical infrastructure.
The brownfield context is important: new technology must be integrated into an operational environment, where solutions must be technically sound and feasible within existing production lines, available space, production conditions, and safety frameworks. Projects can amount to several million euros, with complexity primarily stemming from adapting an existing production environment.
What you do
- Guide from budget request through engineering to realization.
- Take on technical CAPEX projects within an existing production environment in the process industry.
- Be involved from the first phase: define scope, make an initial cost estimate, and identify necessary engineering, personnel, and external parties.
- Provide technical and financial justification for the CAPEX budget request.
- After approval: shift focus to engineering and execution, approach subcontractors, estimate engineering hours, and ensure proper staffing.
- During the engineering phase: guide engineers from various disciplines and monitor whether technical choices remain within scope, planning, and budget.
- In the realization phase: co-supervise execution and coordinate with internal stakeholders such as production, technical maintenance, and broader organization for project commitment.
- Possess sufficient technical knowledge to discuss mechanical installations and utilities (pumps, heating and cooling systems, boilers).
- CAPEX budgeting: set up project budgets and provide technical and financial input for CAPEX budget requests.
- Scope and specifications: translate a technical need from production into a feasible scope and associated specifications.
- Brownfield: work on modifications to existing production lines and installations, where interfaces with existing technology are explicitly part of the project.
- Engineering: determine necessary engineering, estimate engineering hours, and guide engineers during further elaboration.
- Multidisciplinary and subcontractors: coordinate with other technical disciplines and external parties, with an emphasis on mechanical.
- Execution and project control: remain involved after the engineering phase, co-supervise realization, and monitor scope, planning, budget, quality, and progress.
- Stakeholders: liaise with production, technical maintenance, engineering, and safety, among others.
Profile
- Experience with budgeting, leading, or technically guiding CAPEX projects in similar industrial production environments.
- Experience with brownfield projects and understanding the limitations of existing installations and production lines.
- Ability to technically define a project in the initial phase and translate it into scope, specifications, costs, and required engineering.
- Sufficient mechanical engineering knowledge to understand installations including pumps and heating/cooling systems in detail.
- Ability to realistically estimate engineering hours and required project staffing.
- Accustomed to providing substantive guidance to engineers and external parties during engineering and execution.
- Ability to discuss technical choices with various stakeholders within an organization.
- Experience with relevant standards and guidelines in industrial projects (Machinery Directive, Low Voltage Directive, ATEX).
- VCA-VOL certification or willingness to obtain it in the short term.
