This laboratory-focused role aims to utilize preclinical MRI to solve complex problems within pharmaceutical development. You will work closely with internal and external specialists in formulation development, analytical development, material science, and product performance.
What you will do.
- Develop, optimize, and validate MRI methods for pharmaceutical materials, formulations, dosage forms, and drug-delivery devices.
- Develop MRI workflows that complement CT analysis and other analytical techniques for typical pharmaceutical applications.
- Investigate water ingress and hydration kinetics in tablets, capsules, gels, and complex dosage forms to gain insight into disintegration, swelling, diffusion, and dissolution-related mechanisms.
- Characterize coatings and capsules, including coating integrity, permeability, delayed release, capsule disintegration, and spatial heterogeneity of release-controlling films.
- Apply MRI to investigate the functionality of drug-delivery devices, for example, for non-destructive visualization of internal movements, fluid distribution, filling and emptying behavior, and functional performance under relevant test conditions.
- Investigate sedimentation and resuspendability of suspensions, depots, and dispersed systems by monitoring particle settling, phase separation, and redistribution after agitation.
- Translate complex imaging data into concrete and actionable insights for formulation and process development.
- Support multidisciplinary studies in formulation development, analytical development, material science, and product performance.
- Build internal expertise, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and suitable methods for data interpretation and characterization using MRI.
- Where relevant, perform and interpret basic experiments with solid-state NMR.
- Work according to all applicable environmental, health, safety, regulatory, and GMP requirements and contribute to a safe working environment.

- Hands-on experience with preclinical MRI equipment is highly desired.
