As a Virtualization Engineer, you are responsible for the management, design, and further development of virtualization platforms. You will work in a complex and innovative IT environment where stability, continuity, and innovation go hand in hand. Within an educational institution, a significant transition is underway. The existing VMware environment will continue to be managed and optimized, while simultaneously working on the implementation of Proxmox as a future virtualization platform.
You will play an important role in both operational management and shaping this future environment. You will ensure that the virtualization platforms are reliable, secure, and future-proof. You will actively contribute to standardization, automation, and the improvement of services. The organization works with Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs). Within the Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) MDT, you will collaborate with specialists in storage, networking, automation, and container platforms.
Together, you will build and manage the infrastructure that forms the basis for education, research, and operations.
What you do
- Design, implement, and further develop virtualization platforms based on VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and Proxmox VE.
- Manage and optimize VMware environments, including vSphere, NSX, and lifecycle management via SDDC Manager.
- Develop and implement Infrastructure as Code solutions for automated server and platform delivery.
- Work according to Current State and Desired State principles to keep infrastructure consistent, scalable, and manageable.
- Integrate virtualization platforms with network, storage, and container platforms.
- Perform migrations, upgrades, and complex changes within the infrastructure.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve complex incidents and performance issues.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and best practices.
- Contribute to security and compliance by initiating and implementing improvement measures.
- Contribute to the team by bringing in experience and expertise, coaching colleagues, and jointly developing solutions.

- Experience with management, lifecycle management, and maintenance of Enterprise infrastructures.
