You will work for a healthcare organization and an academic medical center. Here, you will conduct clinical scientific research into the use of virtual reality in behavioral therapy for children with selective mutism. Children with selective mutism do not speak in social situations, while they do so at home. The impact of this is significant, especially on social and academic functioning.
The preferred treatment is behavioral therapy, where speaking is practiced in small steps and with frequent positive reinforcement. The core is exposure to the feared situation. The current project investigates the effects of behavioral therapy, combined with Virtual Reality Exposure (VRE). VRE allows children to practice steps that are still difficult in reality or to practice at home, with the aim of improving treatment.
What you do
- Co-prepare and execute effectiveness research
- In collaboration with therapists and application developers, collect and process quantitative and qualitative data
- Contribute to writing scientific articles
What they ask You are a psychologist or educationalist with the ambition to conduct research.
- Master's degree in psychology (child and adolescent, clinical or cognitive psychology, or a similar field) or educational sciences
- Knowledge and experience with data analysis (e.g., SPSS, R)
- Good social and organizational skills
- Excellent command of Dutch and English, both verbally and in writing
- Independent work attitude, but also able to collaborate well in a research team
Preferences.
- Diagnostic annotation
- Experience with research involving (young) children and their parents
- Research master's degree with experience in scientific research
- Ambition to pursue a PhD in the future
Practical
- A reference check and screening may be part of the procedure
- For certain job groups, a VOG (Certificate of Conduct) is standardly requested
- Internal candidates will be given preference over external candidates, if equally qualified
