Backend Software Engineer

A government organization is looking for an experienced software engineer to strengthen a team that develops and manages services for a government initiative. These services validate and register environmental documents and make them available via APIs, supporting permit applications and viewing documents in GEO-viewers. The team works closely with other development partners within an Agile SAFe framework, with two-week sprints and quarterly Program Increments.

The team is responsible for the full application lifecycle, from idea to production (DevOps).

What they ask

  • Fluent in Dutch, both written and spoken
  • Minimum HBO (higher professional education) work and thinking level, demonstrable with an HBO or university degree, or an MBO degree with at least 8 years of relevant work experience
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience with Java development
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience with Spring Boot, OpenAPI, Swagger
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience with container technology (Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud) and DevOps management
  • CV and motivation letter written by the candidate

Wishes.

  • Experience with software development in the public sector and in projects with a political/administrative character
  • Experience working in a government initiative for environmental documents
  • Experience with (layered) geodata and history models in registrations

Practical

  • Team consists of 10 developers, 1 test engineer, an information analyst, and a Product Owner, supported by a Scrum Master, integration specialists, and functional administrators
  • Works with Agile Scrum in 2-week sprints, including daily stand-ups, planning, demo, retrospective
  • Services consist of approximately 10 services (APIs), Java backends, and an Angular frontend management portal
  • Runs on a Kubernetes cluster in the Azure Cloud
  • Key techniques and tools: Java, Spring Boot, Angular, TypeScript, OpenAPI, Swagger, jOOQ, Hibernate JPA, Kotlin, Github Copilot, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, XML/GML, Geolson, Robot Framework, Container technology (Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud), Traefik, CI/CD tooling (Git, Tekton, ArgoCD, Maven), Issue tracking (Jira), Agile, Scrum, DevOps
