In a penitentiary institution, the library is a crucial place for detainees to find peace, gain new insights, and work on their future. As a librarian, you are the driving force behind this library. You stimulate development, take initiative, and help detainees prepare for their return to society. You make an important contribution to their successful reintegration, without losing sight of safety.
What you do
- Guide detainees in borrowing books and advising them on literature.
- Manage and update the collection of books and educational materials.
- Supervise library assistants (detainees) to help them build structure, work rhythm, and a sense of responsibility.
- Organize activities that stimulate reading, learning, and personal development, such as reading clubs or thematic meetings.
- Advise management on the setup and continuous development of the library.
- Collaborate with colleagues from reintegration and other disciplines within the institution to ensure the library optimally supports the reintegration process.
