Data Steward

UtrechtHybrid36 hours/week6-12months

A financial institution is looking for a Data Steward for the mortgage domain. You will join a data product team that creates standardized data products covering the application process, intermediaries, advisors, and consultation discussions. Engineers build these products, and you ensure that the data is accurate and that the organization understands its content.

You act as the link between the business and the data, translating questions into requirements, ensuring correct definitions, and guaranteeing data quality.

What you do

  • Get to know stakeholders and translate their questions into clear data requirements
  • Document requirements in a business data model
  • Be responsible for data quality within your domain
  • Establish data definitions and ensure everyone speaks the same language
  • Be the point of contact for data governance within the team
  • Define definitions (e.g., "turnaround time", intermediary) in the data marketplace, including the business data model, and obtain approval from the data owner
  • Manage data lineage: from source system to report, and assess impact of source changes
  • Evaluate data set access requests, document use cases, and filter unnecessary fields
  • Agree with the business on data quality standards, prioritize issues, and resolve them at the source
  • Liaise between the product owner, engineers, data owners, and consumers

What they ask

  • Experience as a Data Steward or in a similar data governance role at a financial institution (bank, insurer, or mortgage provider)
  • Ability to trace and resolve a data issue from notification to root cause
  • Experience in developing business data models and data definitions
  • Experience in ensuring data quality
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to clarify questions
  • Knowledge of operational processes, preferably in mortgages or another financial chain (a plus)
  • Familiarity with HDN messages, loan tranches, and AFM license numbers (a plus)
  • Ability to read SQL and lineage diagrams (building is not required)
  • Excellent command of Dutch (spoken and written) and good command of English
  • Completed HBO or WO education (higher professional education or university degree)
  • Proactive attitude

Practical

  • You reside in the Netherlands and possess a valid work permit
  • A screening will be conducted prior to the start of the assignment
