You will contribute to the development of the next generation of maritime propulsion and energy systems for a national defense organization. You will work on innovative solutions within international research programs focused on hybrid propulsion and energy systems, alternative fuels, and digital simulations. Two research directions are offered:

  • Modeling the behavior of internal combustion engines: Developing new techniques for modeling load response and sound and infrared signatures based on experimental campaigns. The experimental campaigns take place in an energy systems laboratory and with international partners.
  • Concept development, system modeling, and control systems: Developing and applying evaluation models for hybrid propulsion and energy systems, with the aim of gaining early insight into system performance and design choices, and developing advanced control systems. Working on the integration of various simulation approaches (Model-in-the-Loop, Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop) and contributing to the development and application of Digital Twins for maritime systems. Developing methods for testing, verifying, and validating complex, integrated systems within an international collaboration.

What you do

  • Independently conduct scientific research, including drafting individual research plans/proposals in a defined research area.
  • Contribute to the scientific research program by developing a strategic research program.
  • Disseminate research results through scientific publications, conference presentations, etc.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret research data.
  • Act as a content coordinator and bridge-builder between scientific insights, military practice, and societal context.
  • Co-supervise PhD candidates.
