Visual Arts Therapist

A healthcare organization is looking for a new Visual Arts Therapist colleague for a clinical setting. As a visual arts therapist, you actively contribute to the clinical treatment of patients. You offer visual arts therapy within a multidisciplinary setting, both individually and in small groups, adapting to the patient's capabilities and resilience. You help patients gain more insight into themselves and their patterns through concrete experiences.

The department focuses on (young) adults (18+) with complex, persistent physical complaints (ALK), somatic symptom disorders, and functional neurological disorders. The treatment focuses on the connection between physical experiences, emotions, thoughts, behavior, and the social environment, aiming to help patients recognize patterns and experience more control and confidence. Treatments include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Body-Oriented Mentalization-Based Treatment (L-MBT).

Visual arts therapy is a valuable, experience-oriented treatment form that helps make visible and tangible what is sometimes difficult to express in words.

What you do

  • Offering individual and group-oriented visual arts therapy
  • Connecting physical experiences with emotions, thoughts
  • Utilizing visual art forms to increase self-insight, mentalizing capacity
  • Observing processes and translating findings into treatment goals and appropriate interventions
  • Participating in multidisciplinary consultations and treatment plan discussions
  • Coordinating with fellow therapists about the progress of treatment
  • Contributing from your field of expertise to a safe, recovery-oriented, and coherent clinical treatment climate
  • Contributing ideas for the further development of the art therapeutic and clinical treatment offerings

What they ask

  • A completed HBO degree in Visual Arts Therapy
  • Registration with the Register Vaktherapie (Art Therapy Register)
  • Experience with and affinity for mental healthcare (GGZ)
  • Affinity with themes such as mindfulness, mentalization
  • Experience with L-MBT and ACT, or willingness to develop further in these areas
  • Up-to-date professional knowledge and the ability to translate this into practice
  • A reflective, open, and independent work attitude
  • Enjoy multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Experience with complex psychosomatic problems or within a clinical treatment setting is a plus
  • Recognition of core values: appropriate, trust, connecting
