Contribute to more sustainable fisheries and the preservation of valuable seabed habitats in the North Sea.
- Develop and apply seabed indicators to evaluate and make the impact of fishing on the seabed more sustainable.
What you will do.
- Evaluate the impact of fishing on seabed habitats within Belgian and international contexts.
- Analyze seabed and fisheries data.
- Investigate relationships between fishing pressure and seabed indicators.
- Contribute to the further development and improvement of assessment methodologies.
- Independently develop insights, optimize analyses, and elaborate innovative solutions.
- Translate complex scientific information into actionable knowledge for policymakers and the fishing sector.
- Visualize results, prepare reports, and present findings to diverse target groups.
- Support the implementation of European directives for marine strategy and nature restoration.
- Be part of a specialized team and collaborate closely with colleagues and international experts.
- Participate in international working groups, conferences, and consultation platforms.
What they ask
- Master's degree, preferably in biology, bio-engineering, or equivalent.
- Good knowledge of R for data analysis, spatial analysis, and visualization.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.

- Work accurately, critically, and organized, ensuring qualitative analyses and reporting.
- Be hands-on and proactive, able to work independently and take initiative to improve processes, analyses, and methodologies.
- Communicate clearly and purposefully with various target groups, translating complex information into understandable messages.
