Postdoc Ultrafast Spectroscopy on 2D Materials for Quantum Photonics

South HollandHybrid39 hours/week<3months

The project aims to develop defect-based single-photon emitters in 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) for quantum photonic applications. This project is a collaboration with PhD students from another academic institution, where samples and photonic devices will be prepared. It involves fundamental research in collaboration with industrial partners, including an automotive manufacturer and a startup specializing in photonic quantum computing.

What you do

  • Perform fundamental studies on the formation, motion, and decay dynamics of photogenerated charge carriers and excitons.
  • Monitor charge and exciton dynamics and the formation of excitons at defects where single-photon emission should occur.
  • Utilize ultrafast pump-probe laser spectroscopy with optical (TA, PL) and terahertz conductivity detection.
  • Optionally be involved in computational modeling (DFT/GW/BSE) of charge carriers and excitons, depending on experience and interests.

What they ask

  • Relevant university degree in physics, materials science, or chemistry.
  • Experience with ultrafast pump-probe laser spectroscopy.
  • A PhD degree.

Practical

  • Opportunity to relocate to the Netherlands, with relocation support and a Dual Career Program for accompanying partners.
