Members of the Audit Chamber
The Audit Chamber of a municipal organization is looking for two new members, due to expansion and to replace a member. The Audit Chamber supports the municipal council by conducting independent research into the effectiveness, efficiency, and legality of municipal policy. This contributes to transparency and strengthens the council's supervisory role. The investigations are diverse and include topics such as influence on the social domain, flow-through, housing construction programming, and subsidy acquisition.
What you do
The Audit Chamber has recently expanded and is supported by a secretary-researcher. As a member, you contribute to deciding which topics are investigated and you guide the execution of those investigations. It is also possible to conduct (parts of) an investigation yourself, if it aligns with your expertise. Together with the other members, you:
- Follow the local political agenda and relevant developments
- Determine the research agenda
- Conduct (preliminary) research and prepare or evaluate research designs
- Guide investigations, carried out by the internal researcher or external parties
- Evaluate draft and final reports
- Formulate conclusions and recommendations based on research
- Ensure a good connection with the local administrative bodies and the administrative organization
- Ensure the proper functioning of the Audit Chamber and monitor the quality of the work
Profile
- Affinity with the work of the Audit Chamber and motivated to contribute to issues within the municipal organization
- Enjoys conducting research; knowledge of and experience with (self-)conducting evaluation research is a clear advantage
- Affinity with themes such as public administration, social and administrative processes, financial issues, legality, and efficiency. A broad perspective and quick learning ability are important
- Interest in the municipal context: follows local political and social developments with interest and is aware of what is happening; knows how to navigate complex issues
- Independent in judgment, works with integrity, and possesses sharp analytical skills. Works precisely and carefully. Critical thinking is inherent, and is capable of making well-founded decisions
- Strong communication skills: knows how to convey the message clearly, both orally and in writing
- No employment relationship with the municipal organization: does not work for the organization, does not carry out assignments for it, and is not active in a political function. This is a strict condition for the independence of the Audit Chamber
Practical
- An appointment for a period of 6 years, with the possibility of reappointment
- The required time commitment varies and will amount to 18-22 hours per month (excluding any involvement in conducting personal research). The activities can be well combined with other professional and/or social activities
- A monthly remuneration of €925 and compensation for hours spent on conducting personal research
