Neighborhood Consultant Livelihood Security Debt Counseling

You help residents regain control over their finances and their lives. With an eye for all aspects of life, specialized knowledge of debt counseling, and a broad perspective, you truly make a difference. You support residents with financial and social issues based on trust and equality. You work integrally, looking at all areas of a resident's life. You combine specialized debt counseling with case management and collaboration in the neighborhood.

What you will do.

  • First point of contact for residents with financial questions or problems.
  • Looks beyond just financial matters, with an eye for housing, health, upbringing, work, relationships, and mental burden.
  • Connects with the resident's needs and possibilities to create overview, peace, and perspective.
  • Prevents crisis situations or offers long-term guidance towards financial self-reliance.
  • Collaborates with professionals from various disciplines in neighborhood teams of a local public organization.
  • Provides general information about benefits, allowances, and provisions.
  • Performs specialized debt counseling within the Municipal Debt Counseling Act (Wgs).
  • Takes the lead when support is needed in multiple areas of life.
  • Conducts conversations with residents at home, in the neighborhood, or at the organization's location.
  • Guides residents towards greater financial self-reliance.
  • Maintains contact with aid workers, creditors, and network partners.
  • Distributes new registrations and schedules initial conversations.
  • Elaborates conversations into integrated plans and liaises with colleagues.
  • Participates in case consultations with colleagues.
  • Updates reports and maintains contacts via phone and email.

  • Easily makes contact and puts residents at ease, even in difficult situations.
  • Listens attentively, asks probing questions, and quickly grasps the core of a situation.
  • Maintains an overview, even when multiple requests for help are present simultaneously.
  • Understands that sustainable change takes time and motivates residents.
  • Empathetic and people-oriented, but also dares to be clear and take charge when necessary.
  • Flexible, entrepreneurial, and enjoys collaborating with colleagues and network partners.

What they ask

  • Completed HBO (higher professional education) degree, preferably in Social Work or Social Legal Services.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations, the social security system, and financial provisions.
  • Experience with debt counseling.
  • Experience with conducting interviews and analyzing complex situations.
  • Knowledge of behavioral change and psychological models.
