As a Geo-ICT Specialist, you are responsible for the management and maintenance of GIS applications and ensuring the integrity of map and mission information. You provide technical support to users and design interfaces between different systems. In addition, you play a crucial role in implementing security procedures for geo-data and optimizing data exchange via standards.
You are responsible for the quality and availability of GIS infrastructures and applications and provide specialist advice within the established policy and security frameworks. You support the various GIS-related activities of the instruction clusters and students within an educational institution.
What you do
- Coordinate the (re)configuration, installation, and updates of GIS software and platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, Elias, and Socet GXP)
- Document configuration parameters, release packages, and technical acceptance criteria
- Ensure correct recording, storage, version management, and security of map and mission datasets (raster, vector, metadata)
- Implement procedures for data integrity, archiving, and distribution within the various information systems
- Design and maintain interfaces between GIS systems and other applications (e.g., Command-and-control, training simulations)
- Optimize the exchange of spatial data via standards (OGC, WMS/WFS, Geo-JSON)
- Advise and support instructors, students, and other users in the efficient and secure application of GIS tools
- Develop work and user instructions and provide (online) training sessions
- Apply defensive security procedures to GIS data (crypto, access, and authorization management)
- Ensure that GIS processes comply with applicable regulations and policy frameworks
- Contribute to internal projects and the continuity of the ICT department
What they ask
- Minimum MBO level 4 ICT or a relevant education (e.g., Geo-informatics, GIS-Engineering) with demonstrable HBO work and thinking level
- Demonstrable experience with the management of GIS environments and the integration of geo-data into complex information systems
- Knowledge of GIS architecture, spatial data models, cartography principles, and relevant standards (OGC, ISO 19115)
- Skills in managing GIS platforms, scripting (Python with GDAL/ArcPy, PowerShell), and database management (PostGIS, Oracle Spatial)
- Insight into the organization (internal departments) and security procedures for geo-data
- Basic network and systems knowledge (Windows Server, Linux)
Practical
- A security screening (VGB) is part of the application process
- It is necessary that you have Dutch nationality as a civilian applicant
- Providing a Certificate of Conduct (VOG) is a condition for appointment
- A security investigation and reference check may be part of the selection procedure, including a background check on criminal records and financial matters (average 8 weeks)
- In accordance with internal procedures, employees with an employment contract with the organization are considered first, followed by external applicants
