Do you enjoy helping to obtain the missing piece of a criminal investigation, leading to a dangerous criminal being put behind bars? Then you are the software engineer we are looking for in the Research & Development cluster within a specialized digital team. This is the only team in the Netherlands where experts from various investigative services implement the legal hacking authority.
The team works at the request of investigative teams domestically and internationally and is part of a national investigation and intervention unit. The Research & Development cluster within the specialized digital team focuses on vulnerability research and the development of tools and software for hacking and investigating suspects' systems. Investigations are unpredictable and dynamic. Due to the great importance of careful execution, as a software engineer, you are also closely involved in the operation.
For example, when the new software you have developed is used for the first time, you are present during the action for guidance and troubleshooting. The authority may only be used for serious crimes, meaning your work makes a valuable contribution to the detection of suspects of these crimes. In combination with the secrecy of the authority, confidentiality and the shielding of methodologies are very important within this team.
Working in a relatively new team means there is still plenty of room for joint development. You can also take advantage of a wide range of training opportunities.
What you do
- As a software engineer, you are one of the operational specialists who enables offensive security specialists to perform their work as safely, efficiently, and reliably as possible.
- In a team of specialists, you develop new tools and software for the operation.
- Together with your R&D colleagues, you develop new solutions for intrusion, evolve Proof of Concepts into fully-fledged products, and create new solutions for data extraction and processing.
- You utilize your technical knowledge and work closely with colleagues from various services and departments of the organization and (inter)national partners.
- Although you primarily focus on project-based development, you also perform various testing activities with your colleagues. These testing activities are important to ensure that the developed tools and software meet the established requirements.

- Accurate recording and documentation are important in investigations, so you possess good written skills in Dutch and English.

Practical
- Irregular working hours may occur.
- An assessment and a security screening A are part of the selection procedure.
- You must have Dutch nationality (this can also be your second nationality).
- You have an HBO-level diploma (bachelor) or are equivalent through EVC. Alternatively, you have at least two years of work experience at the required level. You demonstrate this with a recognized job description or a formally established vacancy text or other formal proof. The proof must demonstrably relate to a position you have actually performed and must be traceable to your person. Think of an employer's statement indicating the working and thinking level or an extract from the HR system showing your position and employment.
