Communications Advisor

As a Communications Advisor, you actively contribute to the internal and external (brand) positioning of a government knowledge center and to brand development. You advise internal clients and translate organizational goals into clear communication plans and concrete tools. Around key events, you coordinate the entire communication and content process. You do this with your team and, where necessary, manage external agencies.

During strategic sessions, you take on the role of facilitator or discussion leader to effectively guide colleagues and external stakeholders. Daily, you collaborate with the social media advisor, editorial team, subject matter specialists, and external partners on copy, design, (audio)visual productions, and social media content. In doing so, you constantly monitor brand consistency, tone of voice, and accessibility.

What you will do.

  • Develop and implement an overarching (online/offline) communication strategy
  • Contribute to the internal and external (brand) positioning of the organization and further brand development
  • Advise internal clients on communication strategy, positioning, and stakeholder management
  • Lead the communication and content process around knowledge events
  • Prepare and facilitate (strategic) sessions as a facilitator or discussion leader
  • Develop strategic formats (thought-leadership, storytelling series, explainer videos, podcasts)
  • Draft briefings and scripts for the development/elaboration of interviews, articles, and (audiovisual) products
  • Brief external agencies (design, video, animation) together with the editorial team and assess intermediate and final products for quality and brand consistency
  • Ensure that all communication expressions meet requirements regarding comprehensibility, topicality, findability, and legal correctness
  • Write articles and social media posts
  • Collect and analyze data, report on it, and determine follow-up actions to improve communication
  • Advise internal and external parties for optimization
  • Safeguard/contribute to process descriptions, manuals, protocols, instructions, and working agreements
  • Share knowledge, best practices, and provide knowledge sessions for colleagues and partners
  • Monitor developments and trends (e.g., AI, privacy legislation, social media) and translate them into communication advice
  • Advise coordinators, working groups, and the editorial team on communication strategies and reputation issues
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, chain partners, media, and other relevant parties
  • Represent the organization in (crisis) consultations and multidisciplinary project groups
  • Be a sparring partner for the editorial team and specialists in campaigns and media productions
  • Participate in content-related consultation structures with the editorial team and experts

Guidance and supervision.

  • You work according to the organization's guidelines and procedures and relevant laws, regulations, and/or policy guidelines.
  • The communication policy of the government and the implementing organization in general – and the knowledge center in particular – is leading in carrying out the work.
  • You are accountable for the execution of your own work. You are part of a team and work under the direction of the coordinator.
  • You make independent decisions regarding content, channel choices, planning, and data interpretation.

What they ask

  • Excellent command of the Dutch language
  • Minimum of a completed HBO (higher professional education) degree, for example in communication or journalism
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a communication specialist within or for the (semi-)government
  • Experience with projects within the domain of environmental regulations, the physical living environment, or comparable domains
  • Able to translate complex information into clear content

Preferences:

  • Experience working for the national government, or a comparable large organization, with at least 5000 employees
  • Knowledge of and experience with projects within the domain of environmental regulations, the physical living environment, or comparable domains
  • Experience with organizing, facilitating, and presenting strategic sessions
  • Able to translate organizational goals into a communication strategy
