GZ psychologist Child & Youth

A child is never just a diagnosis. Of course, you will encounter diagnoses such as ASD, ADHD, trauma, and attachment issues. But as a GZ-psychologist, you know that the story doesn't end there. You look at the home situation, what a child has experienced, why something works in one place and not in another, and what role the system around the child plays. You will work with children aged approximately 4 to 12 years with complex psychiatric problems.

These are children for whom outpatient treatment is not always sufficient and for whom it is sometimes necessary to first carefully examine what is actually going on. It is a place where you will be significantly challenged intellectually. Within a specialized children's clinic, there are three treatment groups.

• One group focuses on short-term observation and treatment of children up to twelve years old with, among other things, ASD, ADHD, trauma, and attachment issues.
• The other two groups focus on children aged 3 to 9 and 9 to 12 years, where trauma and attachment issues are particularly prevalent and treatment trajectories can be longer.

The groups consist of a maximum of eight children, and 24-hour care is provided. Children go home whenever possible. This combination makes the work varied: observing, researching, treating, consulting, and continuously looking at the bigger picture.

What you will do. As a GZ-psychologist, you are the primary therapist and are substantively involved in the entire treatment process.

• You conduct intakes and diagnostic research.
• You establish the treatment plan together with the team.
• You perform cognitive treatments yourself.
• You work closely with parents, colleagues, and other involved professionals around the child.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to do more than just manage your own caseload:

• You contribute to the treatment philosophy and working methods of the department.
• You provide substantive input on policy, treatment methodologies, and new developments.
• You keep up with developments in psychological interventions.
• You work multidisciplinarily on complex cases.
• You supervise a psychologist in training and can act as a work supervisor.

This means treating and having a substantive influence on how care is shaped.

What they ask

• A university master's degree in psychology, orthopedagogy, or pedagogical sciences, supplemented with the post-master's training to become a GZ-psychologist.
• A valid BIG registration.
• Experience in child and adolescent psychiatry.
• Experience with psychodiagnostic research.
• Affinity with cognitive behavioral therapy and knowledge of systemic therapy.
• Preferably, experience with complex trauma treatment and/or EMDR.
• You dare to bring in your own vision, take responsibility, and involve colleagues in what you observe.
