Disability Care Worker

You work with clients who need clarity, structure, and proximity.

  • You support clients with an intellectual disability and associated behavioral or psychiatric issues at a residential location of a care organization.
  • Residents range in age from 29 to 67 years and have an intellectual level from mild to severe or moderate.
  • In addition to their intellectual disability, they experience psychiatric and/or behavioral problems.
  • Clients need supervisors who understand them, observe well, and respond to their needs.
  • Structure, predictability, and proximity are essential for a pleasant day.
  • Some clients attend external day activities, while others receive day activities from home.
  • Leisure activities vary and require individual attention.

What you do

  • You guide clients and support colleagues.
  • You take an overarching view of the quality of care, team collaboration, and client development.
  • From your expertise, you take on a coordinating role.
  • You monitor the common thread in guidance, coordinate care tasks, and maintain an overview of what clients and colleagues need.
  • You provide guidance based on an autism approach, focusing on structure and predictability.
  • You guide some clients step-by-step through the day; for others, the focus is more on providing clear frameworks and maintaining an overview.
  • You support and coach colleagues in client guidance.
  • You provide feedback, contribute to discussions on complex situations, and stimulate professional development within the team.
  • Thanks to your helicopter view, you identify opportunities and bottlenecks early and actively contribute to improving the quality of care.
  • You make an important contribution to a positive living and working environment.
  • Clients are physically reasonably independent; where necessary, you offer support in the form of reminders and instructions regarding ADL (Activities of Daily Living) support.
  • You will encounter challenging behavior, including physical and/or verbal aggression.
  • You remain calm, maintain an overview, and respond quickly to signals and requests for help.
  • You work independently but also stand by your colleagues; mutual support is an important prerequisite.

Profile

  • You have a diploma suitable for the position of disability care worker at HBO (higher professional education) level.
  • You have good communication skills.
  • You are resilient and pragmatic by nature.
  • You can reflect well on your own actions.
  • You observe carefully, signal changes in the request for help, and dare to act upon them.
  • Even when tensions rise, you remain calm and maintain an overview.
  • Experience or affinity with clients with psychiatric problems, behavioral problems, and an autism approach is a plus for this position.
