The knowledge center is looking for a social science empirical researcher who wants to contribute to access to justice for people often in vulnerable situations. The organization monitors, evaluates, and researches the functioning of the subsidized legal aid system. By feeding politics, policy, and implementation with knowledge and data, the organization contributes to a learning system.
The knowledge center started a little over three years ago as part of an independent administrative body and conducts research independently. Work is often carried out on behalf of this body, but also for a ministry, a legal aid desk, a professional organization for lawyers, and/or a professional organization for mediators.
As an implementing organization of a ministry, the independent administrative body is responsible for an important provision in our democratic constitutional state: subsidized legal aid. It ensures that financially less fortunate citizens have access to good and affordable legal aid and receive support for solving legal problems. Legal aid is provided by approximately 7,000 lawyers and mediators who meet the established quality requirements.
What you do
As a researcher, you make an important contribution to the research of the knowledge center. In addition, you are an important advisor to the management of the knowledge center when it comes to conducting high-quality research.
The knowledge center consists of two clusters: the monitoring and data cluster and the research cluster. You will work in the Research cluster, which currently consists of 9 other researchers and research assistants. This cluster focuses on conducting empirical research based on programmatic and ad hoc requests from clients.
The researcher's role includes at least:
- Co-coordinating, designing, and executing research projects, including translating knowledge needs into research questions, determining and shaping research methods, collecting and analyzing empirical data, and writing research reports
- Collaborating with other (senior) researchers, data scientists, data analysts, and research assistants, in varying compositions. You will work simultaneously on various research projects
- Actively monitoring developments within and around the subsidized legal aid system
- Contributing to the further development of the quality of the research produced by the knowledge center

- Excellent social science empirical research skills: you are able to independently complete a full research trajectory, from formulating the question to presenting the findings
- Extensive demonstrable experience with the development and application of research methods, preferably within a (social) scientific and/or policy context
- Extensive demonstrable experience with empirical research methods and the analysis and reporting of the data collected therewith
- Extensive experience with project-based research execution. The ideal candidate has expertise in quantitative research, preferably (large-scale) questionnaire surveys
- Excellently developed political-administrative sense and management identification
- Interest in societal issues, including access to justice and subsidized legal aid
- Excellent collaboration skills in research
- Excellent command of the Dutch language, both orally and in writing
