Personal Support Worker Mild & Moderate Intellectual Disability
In a residential facility, 14 residents with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities live in their own apartments. The facility is located in a quiet residential area, close to the dunes and the beach. Residents meet in the common living rooms for a chat, socializing, or an activity. Everyone has their own life story and support needs.
What you will do. As a personal support worker, you will combine daily guidance with a coordinating role. You will support residents in their daily lives and encourage them to do as much as possible themselves. This can involve personal care, household tasks, cooking, social contacts, activities, and maintaining a pleasant daily rhythm. You will adapt to what someone can and needs, without unnecessarily taking over.
For the residents for whom you are responsible, you will draw up support plans and guidance goals, and monitor progress and quality. You will signal changes, coordinate with relatives, colleagues, and involved disciplines, and translate agreements into daily guidance. You will also help colleagues to work from the same goals and approach. You will work in a committed team where colleagues actively seek each other out and provide support.
You will collaborate with behavioral experts, nurses, physiotherapists, and other disciplines, among others. You will know the residents well and discuss their needs with colleagues. You will be given a lot of room to work independently and take initiative.
Profile
You are independent, take responsibility, and maintain an overview. You see what residents need, think in possibilities, and can guide colleagues in a clear and appropriate way of support. You will have the opportunity to contribute ideas and take on tasks. You will look for areas of improvement, take responsibility, and not wait when you see something is needed. You will use your professional knowledge to provide appropriate support.
