Forensic therapeutic worker

Do you want a versatile role where safety, guidance, and collaboration with healthcare professionals come together? Within a care center for detainees, you are responsible for the safety of all healthcare professionals and the detained patients, and you guide the detained patients.

What you will do.

  • You collaborate with doctors, psychologists, case managers, and nurses.
  • You ensure the safety of all disciplines in contact with detained patients.
  • You are responsible for a group of detainees with various somatic and often psychological problems.
  • You help patients with clarity, structure, supportive conversations, or activities.
  • You activate and motivate detained patients.
  • You act adequately and proactively in cases of (verbal) aggression.
  • You devise a suitable daily program within existing frameworks that aligns with safety and care.
  • You guide the group during individual and group activities.
  • You ensure that detainees are on time for appointments.
  • You continuously guarantee safety in the department.
  • You mentor several patients and observe their behavior and functioning.
  • You signal changes and share relevant information within the multidisciplinary team.
  • You create a safe, structured, and supportive environment for recovery.

What they ask

  • Minimum MBO 4 diploma for the medior position (e.g., social pedagogical worker, personal supervisor for specific target groups, or social care worker, or a comparable field).
  • For the senior position, an HBO diploma (preferably in social pedagogical work, personal supervisor for specific target groups, or social care worker, or a comparable field).
  • Knowledge of group dynamics and conflict management.
  • Ability to work well with a forensic target group.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and alert to potential safety risks.
  • Knowledge of psychopathology, guidance, and care.
  • Ability to observe the behavior of (individual) patients, participate in interventions, and draw up reports.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Capable of de-escalating and acting proactively when necessary.

  • Empathy and ability to relate to the situations and backgrounds of the target group.
  • Being firm, balanced, persistent, and consistent, and radiating calm.
  • Collegial and not shying away from tense situations.
  • Ability to work well with all disciplines (doctors, psychologists, nurses, and other colleagues).
  • Loyal work attitude and ability to work in a secured setting.
  • Willingness to work irregular shifts.
