Environmental Manager

FlevolandHybrid30 hours/week<3months

Complex projects require someone who brings interests together, connects the project with its environment, and ensures that residents, partners, and other stakeholders are involved at the right time. For public space projects, a public sector organization is looking for a professional who understands that support does not arise automatically and knows how to bring together diverse interests in projects that are visible in the city and noticeable to the people who live and work there.

You will start, among other things, on a wastewater remediation operation in a specific area, one of the most unique and complex tasks within the public space. Additionally, you will work on projects within a large-scale residential area maintenance program. With your experience, you will ensure a supported environmental approach, help project teams make balanced choices, and contribute to the further development of the environmental management field within the organization.

What you do

The wastewater remediation operation is a unique task in an organically developed area where private properties, road associations, homeowners' associations (VvE's), and individual residents play an important role. Work is being done to connect nearly 1,500 households and businesses to the municipal sewage system. No situation is the same, and this requires customization, careful considerations, and strong environmental management.

You ensure that the realities of residents' lives and project progress do not conflict. You know the environment, understand what is happening, and help the project team make decisions that hold up outside the meeting room. The project is being set up according to the Integrated Project Management model (IPM). Within the project team, you ensure that the environment is involved early in the considerations made.

This helps the team make choices that are not only technically feasible but also explainable and practical. Within the IPM team, you work integrally with the project manager, technical manager, contract manager, and project control manager.

  • Formulate and execute an integral environmental approach for complex projects
  • Prepare BLVC plans, communication and participation plans, stakeholder analyses, and risk analyses
  • Organize and guide resident meetings, information evenings, and participation processes
  • Maintain contacts with residents, owners, road associations, VvE's, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Advise project leaders, clients, and management on environmental issues and strategic choices
  • Coordinate permit processes and secure legal agreements with the environment
  • Manage colleagues and contractors responsible for a significant part of operational environmental management
  • Coach and advise colleagues within the environmental management field

In addition to this specific task, you will be broadly deployable on projects where public spaces are maintained, renewed, redesigned, or constructed.

Profile

You are an experienced environmental manager who understands that successful projects are not just about technology, planning, and finance, but also about trust, collaboration, and support. You know when to listen, when to connect, and when to provide clear direction. Complex issues energize you. You can empathize well with the interests of residents and other stakeholders without losing sight of the project goal. Especially in situations where interests diverge, you know how to bring calm, overview, and structure.

You feel comfortable in an environment where not everything is predefined. You can switch between strategic issues and daily practice, move easily between different interlocutors, and are able to involve people in choices that are not always simple. Furthermore, you find it natural to share your knowledge and experience with colleagues and contribute to the further development of the field within the organization.
