SQL Server DBA

An organization is looking for a Database Administrator (DBA) to provide technical support for the database environment. This includes overseeing the development and organization of databases, evaluating and implementing new technologies, and providing a long-term perspective to the IT department on the relationship between database technology and the business opportunities facing the company. It is of utmost importance that online processing database systems offer the highest possible reliability and performance.

The DBA will work with the architecture, application development, and operations departments to create an advanced environment that meets current and future business objectives.

What you will do.

  • Train and develop technical support and application department staff to better utilize the online processing database environment.
  • Design and deliver tools to support the management of the database and transaction processing environment.
  • Establish a working model of the transaction processing environment for capacity assessment and planning.
  • Strengthen and support the DBA team.
  • Install, configure, and maintain database servers and processes.
  • Upgrade, consolidate, and migrate databases between MS SQL servers, from A to Z (preparation – execution – follow-up). This can involve simple installations or critical high-availability platforms.
  • Manage the various databases in terms of performance, tuning, quality, security, availability, and consistency for MS SQL Server.
  • Provide support for Azure SQL databases.
  • Support application owners with questions and problems related to the installation and migration of MS SQL databases.
  • Develop improvement proposals and ensure the smooth running of the infrastructure.
  • Proactively propose technical optimizations.

Profile

  • Service-oriented mindset and a strong sense of responsibility for assigned issues and requests.
  • Focus on managing and resolving issues in accordance with SLAs.
  • Establish and maintain communication with technology vendors to keep customers informed of the status of their requests.
  • Initiate and implement changes in production systems.
  • Proactively escalate any issues that cannot be resolved within established deadlines.
  • A degree in computer science, business administration, information technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server and experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
  • Initial experience with performance tuning and optimization, using monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Initial experience with backups, recovery operations, and recovery models, knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) for MSSQL Server.
  • Experience implementing operational automations using scripts.
  • Experience working with Windows Server, including Active Directory.
  • Good knowledge of or willingness to develop in-depth expertise in the following areas:
  • Microsoft SQL Server (2017, 2019, and 2022)
  • Microsoft SQL Server AlwaysOn AG
  • Basic knowledge of Azure SQL databases
  • Automation and scripting (PowerShell, T-SQL, …)
  • Data backup and recovery – basic knowledge of a generic network backup solution
  • Microsoft Windows servers
  • Monitoring tool – basic knowledge of a generic SQL monitoring tool
  • Proactive attitude to propose creative structural solutions.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Team player.
