The accountancy sector is extensive, dynamic, and has a major impact on millions of people. Reliable financial statements are important for crucial economic decisions. The sector is constantly changing due to developments such as private equity involvement, mergers, digitalization, and new legislation. This creates risks and shifts responsibilities. Therefore, sharp supervision is needed on the quality of statutory audits, the quality management system, and the behavior and culture within accountancy organizations.

In this role, you will supervise the accountancy sector, with an emphasis on the design and operation of the quality management system within accountancy organizations. You will combine insights and information from discussions with organizations, research, and data analysis. Together with colleagues, you will determine the most effective approach, ranging from conducting dialogue and organizing thematic meetings to implementing formal enforcement when necessary.

You will connect individual cases with broader developments in the sector, allowing you to stay informed about what is happening in the sector and what that means for supervision.

What you do

  • Identify and analyze risks based on signals, reports, trends, and laws and regulations
  • Assess the quality management system and its practical operation
  • Investigate how organizations handle quality findings and their approach to root cause analysis and improvement
  • Conduct investigations at accountancy organizations on-site and evaluate statutory audits
  • Maintain relationships with accountancy organizations and relevant industry organizations and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with colleagues from various disciplines and contribute to the further development of supervision

What they ask

  • You possess an RA title (Registered Accountant) and have at least 4 years of experience with financial audits
  • Experience at an accountancy organization is required
  • Relevant experience in assessing the quality management system within accountancy organizations, for example, gained within an accountancy organization and/or in risk or compliance roles
  • Analytical skills: comprehend complex issues and perform sharp analyses
  • Communication skills: effectively engage in discussions, even when interests conflict or there is resistance
  • Results-oriented: work purposefully and ensure that efforts lead to concrete and valuable results
  • Proactivity: take independent action and identify opportunities to initiate change
  • Curiosity: ask questions, actively research, and continuously seek new insights to better understand and comprehend situations

Practical

You will be part of a department focused on the quality of accountancy audits and reporting. This is a large department with approximately 100 colleagues from various disciplines, from accountants and lawyers to data analysts, behavioral experts, and policy advisors. Supervisory investigations are often carried out in multidisciplinary teams, where different expertise areas reinforce each other.

This enables the organization to thoroughly understand complex issues from various angles and makes supervision more effective. Together, supervision is exercised over approximately 236 accountancy organizations and the financial reporting of listed companies.
