Teaching assignment.

• Guiding master's and doctoral students within the research domain of climate-resilient living environments and building performance.
• Contributing to seminars, research workshops, and international knowledge exchange on resilient residential infrastructure.

Research assignment.

• Developing a leading international research program on the relationship between:
• climate-related risks and the built environment;
• performance of homes and residential areas under extreme events;
• recovery, renovation, and reconstruction processes;
• sustainability, residential continuity, and social resilience;
• the interaction between technical, institutional, economic, and social factors determining the vulnerability of residential environments.
• Building bridges between technical disciplines, urban and housing research, heritage studies, architecture, sustainability research, and policy studies.
• Developing innovative theoretical and empirical frameworks that contribute to a better understanding of how residential systems can adapt to changing climatic conditions in the long term.
• Taking an active role in strengthening international research networks and comparative research between North American and European contexts.

Other tasks.

• Actively participating in the scientific activities of the relevant research group and the department.
• Strengthening synergies between research groups within the department and with other research groups within the institution.
• Supporting international research applications and collaborative projects.
• Contributing to societal valorization and knowledge exchange with policymakers, professional organizations, and societal stakeholders.
• Promoting interdisciplinary research within the institution.

• A doctoral degree with a dissertation in engineering sciences relevant to the field.
• A strong international research profile built around at least 3 of the following themes:
• building performance and infrastructure;
• natural hazards and climate risks;
• disaster research and post-disaster recovery;
• residential systems and housing research;
• sustainability and climate adaptation of the built environment.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant research experience after obtaining the doctorate.
• Proven experience in fundraising, leading research projects, and supervising doctoral students.
• Demonstrable expertise in interdisciplinar y research and the ability to connect technical knowledge with societal, policy, and spatial issues.
• Ability to develop a research vision that bridges engineering, architecture, urban planning, heritage studies, and social sciences.
• Experience with international research networks and high-level scientific publications.
• Endorsing the educational vision of the institution.
• Successfully teaching a trial lesson.

Language requirements.

• The language of instruction must be known at CEFR level C1, demonstrable by a qualification certificate or an adequate diploma.
• The administrative language of the institution is Dutch. In case of insufficient knowledge of Dutch, an integration trajectory will be provided. After a maximum of 5 years, a member of the academic staff must demonstrate adequate knowledge of the administrative language (CEFR level B2).
