Teacher cooking and care

An educational institution is looking for a vocational teacher for cooking and care for students with visual impairments and/or multiple disabilities. The school focuses on regular special secondary education (VSO) with practical education up to HAVO level and a VSO MB program. The teacher works with small steps and meaningful experiences to develop skills and self-reliance. The role also involves participation in the examination program for services and products for VMBO BB and KB oriented learning pathways.

What you will do.

  • Provide practical lessons in care, cooking, hospitality, and household skills.
  • Teach subjects including cooking, cleaning, textile care, and basic household tasks.
  • Adapt lessons to individual learning pathways, developmental levels, and learning styles of students.
  • Teach students with visual and multiple disabilities aged 12 to 20 years.
  • Guide small groups in a safe, structured, and sensory-rich learning environment.
  • Ensure safety and hygiene are always central.
  • Work in lessons on self-reliance, collaboration, social skills, work attitude, experiencing, and discovering.
  • Collaborate closely with teaching assistants, colleagues, and professionals within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Think and work from the mindset: "What is possible?"
  • Organize practical projects, workshops, or theme activities.
  • Participate in a national working group with professional colleagues.

Profile

  • Enthusiastic and practical teacher who works with attention and patience.
  • Passionate about students who need intensive support.
  • Teaching qualification (preferably in the field of Care & Welfare, Consumer Technology, or similar) or a 2nd-degree qualification combined with a hospitality background.
  • Affinity or experience with special education, VSO, and/or students with multiple disabilities.
  • Ability to respond to (non-verbal) communication and appreciate small developmental steps.
  • Creative in offering experiential activities and adapting teaching materials.
  • Patience, humor, and a big heart for students who need that extra guidance.
  • Knowledge of basic nutrition, hygiene regulations, and safety procedures in the kitchen.
  • Flexible, solution-oriented, and a team player.
