Sustainability Manager

An organization supports companies, organizations, and sector initiatives in navigating fast-evolving sustainability legislation: from EU-level legislation to Member State implementation. They work at the intersection of law, policy, and business reality. The role is to translate complex legal texts into clear, actionable guidance; support strategic positioning; and enable organizations to operationalize compliance while identifying opportunities for transformation.

This is often done by supporting industry-wide collaboration. You will join a driven and experienced team working closely with businesses, European institutions, and multi-stakeholder initiatives.

What you do

The Sustainability Manager is responsible for leading client engagements in environmental footprinting and technical sustainability topics. The role brings deep expertise in sustainability methodologies and environmental impact assessment, translating complex technical frameworks and data into practical, impact-driven strategies and implementation approaches for clients.

The Manager owns client accounts end-to-end, ensuring high-quality delivery, strategic alignment, and effective stakeholder coordination within agreed timelines and budgets. This role primarily supports diverse industry coalitions collaborating for the development or implementation of industry methodologies to calculate the environmental footprint of products, whether due to a legal obligation or not.

  • Maintains deep subject-matter expertise on environmental footprinting, translating technical and policy developments into strategic advice for clients and colleagues.
  • Shares knowledge and strategic input across projects to strengthen quality and thought leadership.
  • Designs and leads workshops that foster open dialogue, synthesizes discussions and challenges assumptions to steer discussions toward strategic insights and decisions.
  • Communicates group progress externally via social media and website updates.
  • Interprets complex legislation and sustainability topics, identifying implications across clients and sectors.
  • Manages client relationships end-to-end, delivering on time, on budget, and to a high standard.
  • Supports business development through communications, events and workshops.

What they ask

  • 3-6 years of relevant work experience.
  • Good understanding of environmental footprinting; knowledge of PEF is a plus.
  • Strong interest in environmental legislation and European law.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact and engage with various stakeholders in an international context.
  • Experience in group facilitation.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to navigate a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of other EU languages is a plus.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint & Excel) skills required.
  • Experience working in an international and multi-cultural context is a plus.
  • University degree in Sustainability/ Environmental Sciences / Environmental engineering.
  • Background working on sustainability within business, consultancy, or multi-stakeholder initiatives.
